Helpful Hint:
- The 985 series deadbolt requires a minimum door thickness of 1-3/4".
- The 985 series deadbolt with SmartKey Cylinders will work on a minimum door thickness of 1-3/8".
- Double Cylinder deadbolts are typically used when there is glass within 3' of the door. A double cylinder prevents someone from breaking the glass and reaching through and opening the deadbolt from the inside. If you choose a double cylinder, have a plan to exit in case of an emergency - you will need a key to exit the house if the door is locked.
- The 985 deadbolt matches the deadbolt used on the Kwikset Signature Series Double Cylinder Handlesets.

Kwikset 985 Double Cylinder Deadbolt Smartkey Lock
I ordered three 985 deadbolt locks and three Kwikset Juno Knob Keyed Entry 740J locks from Door Locks Direct. They arrived quickly and in perfect condition in a heavy duty cardboard box. I was replacing the locks on three doors at home and wanted all the locks to use the same key. Since these were replacing 40-year old original Kwikset locks I didn't have to deal with cutting and preparing the doors. All of the locks were fairly easy to install once I learned a few things that weren't in the brief instruction leaflet. I'm sure that a locksmith would usually install locks, but for the benefit of amateur handyman homeowners, I feel that the instructions should include tips on how to juggle all the pieces of the deadbolt locks while attempting to mate the two halves on the door. I spent way too much time attempting the task with all three deadbolts. Other than my difficulty installing the deadbolts I had no problems installing the locks. The Juno knobs were very easy to install. The locks work smoothly and I'm hoping that these will last until long after I've moved on.

Kwikset smart lock
I was lookign for this double cylinder lock. THe locak big box stores did not have this inventory. Doorlocksdirect had it in stock, and they shipped it quickly. I will do business with them in the future.

Excellent quality
I couldn't find this lock anywhere else but door locks direct. The options to buy different types of strike plates with the purchase are very useful. This lock is easy to install, great quality, and the smart key feature is great!

Excellent Product and Easy to Install
This was a replacement for a 24 year old contractor Kwikset lock. What an improvement. It installed easily in the existing opening.
